EV Chargers for Businesses

EV Charger Rebates for Your Business

Holland BPW offers rebates for businesses who install electric vehicle chargers for the use of their employees and/or their customers. The rebates fall into two tiers based on the voltage (i.e. charging speed) of the charger and the infrastructure required to serve the charger(s): Level 2 chargers and Level 3 chargers, also known as “DC fast chargers.”

Measures Available

Level 2 Charger Rebate

Receive a rebate of $1,500 or up to 50% of the cost of installing a Level 2 charger, whichever is less. Businesses may receive rebates for up to ten (10) Level 2 chargers per year, per premise.

DC Fast Charger Rebate

Chargers at least 150 kW in size are eligible for a rebate of $120 per kW, up to a maximum of $35,000 per charger. Businesses may receive up to two (2) DC fast charger rebates per year, per premise if the chargers are available to the public and meet the following criteria:

  • Must be in an area with amenities to accommodate a minimum of 30 minute dwell time (e.g. restaurant, restroom facilities, retail store, park, etc).
  • Must be in a visible, safe, well-lit and accessible location with a parking space for each charging port.
  • Premises must provide clear signage to create visibility and guidance for effective DCFC utilization, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

DC Fast Chargers in locations that are not readily accessible to the general public or are in an area of low traffic or low nearby amenities for the general public are considered private access. Private access DC fast chargers are eligible for one (1) rebate per customer premise per year.

Non-Residential EV Charging Rate

For customers with DC Fast chargers, Holland BPW offers a special rate for chargers that are metered separately from the customer’s main electrical service. Our team can help you evaluate which rate is best for you based on how you intend to use the chargers and whether or not your chargers are open to the public.

Level 2 EV chargers operate on 240-volt electricity, significantly faster than a standard 120-volt wall outlet. They can add approximately 20-30 miles of range per hour of charging.

When selecting a Level 2 charger, consider the following:

  • Certification: Ensure the charger is certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and ETL listed.
  • Installation Requirements: A 240-volt outlet is necessary. If you need to upgrade your electrical service to your business, you may qualify for the upgrade with no out-of-pocket costs. We can help you enquire with our Electrical Engineering department to confirm this for your business.
  • Energy Efficiency: Look for ENERGY STAR models, which save up to 40% more energy in standby mode compared to non-ENERGY STAR models.

Benefits of EV Charging for your Business

  • Increased Customer Dwell Time: Some studies have shown that businesses with EV chargers see customers spend more time shopping, as they are looking for ways to occupy their time while their vehicle charges.
  • Environmental Impact: Charging an EV with Holland BPW electricity generates less than half the carbon emissions of traditional gas cars, contributing to a cleaner environment which supports the City of Holland’s Community Energy Plan.
