Income-Qualified Efficiency Programs

For those seeking assistance with their efficiency upgrades, there are additional financial resources available for qualified households.

Holland BPW Income-Qualified Energy Efficiency Assistance Program

Customers who are at or below 80% of the area median income can receive up to $5,000 per eligible household to complete energy efficiency upgrades. This program aims to reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and improve the health and safety of occupants.

Income Eligibility Limits

Below are the income limits (based on 80% of the area median income) for family sizes of one (1) person up to eight (8) people, as determined by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.  If your household’s total income is below the listed amount for your family size, you are eligible to apply for the Holland BPW Income-Qualified Energy Efficiency Assistance Program.  Applicants must also be Holland BPW residential electric customers.

State Assistance

The Michigan Home Energy Rebates Program (MiHER) helps Michigan residents make their homes more energy-efficient and affordable. This program supports energy efficiency upgrades and electrification efforts for single-family and multifamily homes, reducing utility costs, improving comfort, and enhancing indoor air quality. Homeowners and renters are eligible, with standard rebates available for households earning 81-150% of the area median income (AMI) and enhanced rebates for households earning less than 80% of the AMI.

MiHER consists of two key programs: 

Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES)

  • Up to $20,000 rebate

  • Reduces upfront costs for whole-home energy efficiency upgrades:

    • All energy efficiency improvements (equipment and installation/labor) associated with anticipated energy savings

Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) 

  • Up to $14,000 rebate

  • Lowers costs for efficient electric technologies including:
    • Ventilation
    • Electric Load Service Center (or breaker/fuse box)
    • Heat Pump Water Heater
    • Heat Pump Heating/Cooling
    • Electric Stove, Cooktop, Range, or Oven
    • Air Sealing
    • Insulation
